Belle Morte - Book Review

Welcome to Belle Morte, one of the five vampire houses in England, where Renie has just been accepted as one of the newest blood donors.  Since vampires revealed their existence ten years ago, the world has become even more fascinated with them and has even elevated their status above celebrities.  The vampires now accept blood donors, beautiful people selected to feed them in exchange for fame, fortune and a life of luxury. Vladdicts, fans of these mysterious creatures, follow their lives on social media and through the pages of glossy magazines, sometimes, even being invited to attend one of Belle Morte’s extravagant parties where they might experience a bite or two. They place applications to become one of the select few to be chosen as a donor for the house. Renie, however, is not interested in any of these things.  Renie’s sister, June, became a donor five months ago but has not been heard from since November. Renie is convinced there is something more happening at the vampire mansion, something that coincides with June’s disappearance, and she is determined to find out what has become of her sister. What Renie does not expect, is to fall for the intrigue, uncover the history and legend, or find friendship and love.  But will she find her sister?

4th of July Cross Stitch

Another one of my favorite hobbies is cross stitch.  I have been stitching since before my daughter was born, so about 13 years.  I have several favorite designers but for this post, I am sharing from Brittercup Designs, specifically the Britty Kitty Monthly Series.  I love these monthly designs, as they are very simple to follow and can be completed in a weekend.  Completing the entire series ensures a pretty piece to adorn your walls year-round!  These kitties are also always marked with a pink heart on their bottom. So cute! For the month of July, I stitched the "Hide -n- Seek" kitty with watermelon pieces.  I used 18 count white Aida fabric and strands from The Gentle Art Sampler Threads, Weeks Dye Works and Crescent Colours.  It took about 15 hours to complete this piece.  I will frame it later, in either a simple white or gold frame.   I have not used these threads in the past and it is recommended to complete each stitch ind...

A Kind of Spark - Book Review

A touching story of an autistic girl who finds a deep connection with those accused of practicing witchcraft in her town's history.   Identifying with these misunderstood and scared women, Addie is determined to convince her village council to erect a memorial honoring them.   Fearing similar persecution from the neurotypical community, she, along with her new friend, Audrey, campaign in their village for the memorial plaque.   After a series of heartbreaking events involving both her teacher and a classmate, Addie shares her story with the village council.   Will they silence her once more or finally open their hearts to her request?

Magic Autumn Coloring Page and Black Widow Pencils Review

Today, I am taking a little break from reading to complete a coloring page I have been working on for a while.  I used Black Widow colored pencils for all base color, shadows and highlights.  These premium wax-colored pencils come in 7 sets including Black Widow, Scorpion, Cobra, Dragon, Monarch, Light Tones and Dark Tones.  These vivid colors lay down and blend easily.  I love using these pencils for skin tones, as there are many combinations that can be created for all skin tones. They also offer a palette perfect for fantasy pages!  This page is from the Magic Autumn Halloween Grayscale coloring book with artworks by Alena Lazareva and the book has two sets of illustrations, so you can color with a friend or create two completely different styles of your own!
