From Dust, A Flame - Book Review

Hannah and her brother Gabe have never stayed in one place long enough to truly feel at home and their mother has never explained why. However, the day following her seventeenth birthday, Hannah wakes up, her eyes strangely transformed into snake-like slits. Recognizing what this means and knowing what she must do, their mother leaves her children behind, in search of making things right but reveals nothing else to them. As Hannah’s transformations continue and become more bizarre, and hearing nothing from her mother, Hannah receives an anonymous envelope, postmarked from Fox Hollow, New York, containing only an obituary for Jitka Eggers, a grandmother she has never known. With their mom having not returned and fearing she might be gone forever, Hannah and Gabe travel to Fox Hollow, where they meet their mother’s family for the very first time and discover an ancestry once hidden from them and learn about their Jewish culture. Along with their new friend, Ari, the siblings uncover a secret, a curse, and a legacy.

A Bird Will Soar: Book Review

Axel, an autistic boy with a love for birds faces challenges communicating and understanding others. After a tornado destroys an eaglet's nest as well as his own home, his life begins to change almost daily. His father returns after a long absence, school is closed for repairs and the eagle's nest, gone. Even more, one of the eaglets has sustained an injury. Through his relationship with Dr. Martin, Axel learns about hope, finds his voice, and begins to uncover secrets in his life. 4th of July Cross Stitch

Another one of my favorite hobbies is cross stitch. I have been stitching since before my daughter was born, so about 13 years. I have several favorite designers but for this post, I am sharing from Brittercup Designs, specifically the Britty Kitty Monthly Series. I love these monthly designs, as they are very simple to follow and can be completed in a weekend. Completing the entire series ensures a pretty piece to adorn your walls year-round! These kitties are also always marked with a pink heart on their bottom. So cute! For the month of July, I stitched the "Hide -n- Seek" kitty with watermelon pieces. I used 18 count white Aida fabric and strands from The Gentle Art Sampler Threads, Weeks Dye Works and Crescent Colours. It took about 15 hours to complete this piece.
